Having exposure to different cultures changed how I thought about people, communities and the world…

Julye M. Williams, MBA

I'm Julye...a lover of humanity, world traveler, educator and all-around "Global Girl." I love to explore the world and learn about and experience cultures different from my own. I've been blessed to study, work or vacation in over 20 countries across six continents, and I'm fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

How did I get started? I fell in love with Spanish when I was 12. I had an experience. In middle school, I overheard two girls speaking to each other in Spanish and they were laughing. I didn’t understand what they were saying and thought they were talking about me. My curiosity motivated me to learn the language, which, to my surprise opened doors to an entirely different culture, or way of living, than I had known. I was hooked! After graduating from high school, I sought opportunities to explore the world and since then have visited every continent except Antarctica.

In my work and on this site, I aim to provide resources, insight and opportunity for conversation to explore cultures - those that are similar to, and different from my own. As I’ve sat in kitchens across the world, I’ve noticed that while rice is a staple of most diets, each culture I’ve visited or experienced puts their own spin on it. It’s still rice, but with a twist. For me, that means there is more than one way to live this life. One’s culture - our environment, family structure, values and more - often inform our approach to how we experience life. Just as rice can be delicious and yet prepared differently across the globe, it is important to know that our way of living isn’t the only way.

Welcome to this site, and I look forward to connecting with you!
